Setup that fits your phone
The first run now fills your screen on a phone, with Back and Continue always in reach, and tapping a field no longer zooms the page in.
What we have shipped, newest first. Small things included.
The first run now fills your screen on a phone, with Back and Continue always in reach, and tapping a field no longer zooms the page in.
Drag an account, or a whole institution, into the order you want from the Accounts card. To correct a balance, open the account and choose Reconcile balance.
A dividend that was reinvested now reads as reinvested in what changed, and no longer as money you put in.
Turn institution groups off from the menu on your account list, and drag a group to where you want it in the sidebar.
The FIRE card now shows your days of freedom even when this month has not added any yet, as so far this month.
An account's connection now lists what moved on each sync and what Gentry counted it as. When it asks you about money it could not place, you can now say it was a dividend, or that it was not real money.
Monthly contributions, year to date, Total Contributed and your FIRE dates now leave out reinvested dividends and the money an account already held when you connected it.
Dividends from mutual funds such as VTSAX and FXNAX now show up within about a week of being paid, instead of up to three.
A goal with a date tells you how much is left in its last 30 days, and how far short it fell if the date passes.
If you have not turned it on yet, Gentry now offers to as you sign in. Not now keeps it away on that device for a week.
Set a target for a house, a car or a trip, pick the accounts that fund it, and see when you get there. Goals sit with your milestones, and money saved for one stays out of your FIRE numbers unless you say it counts.
Checking and savings now show this month's change and an optional interest rate instead of cost basis and returns, and interest never counts as money you put in. Update a manual balance in one step.
Connect a bank sits beside Connect a brokerage on your profile, so savings and checking at banks with no investment accounts can sync their balances every night.
The dashboard's performance card now leads with what you have invested, which leaves out your emergency fund, with net worth beside it. What you have put in is now called Total Contributed.
Money marked as an emergency fund no longer counts toward "$X invested" milestones or the savings your plan starts from. Turn it on or off right from the account page.
Record a buy now asks how you paid: with cash already in the account, or with new money. Any amount works, not only multiples of $100.
Each account shows one main action, Sync now or Import, and keeps the rest under More. On a Roth IRA, Log past money in lives on the Roth card, and its breakdown opens one section at a time.
Setting up Gentry now walks through your accounts, your pay and filing status, your plan and Social Security, then tells you what is still worth filling in.
The taxes page splits into This year and Retirement years, so the question you are asking has its own page.
A Transactions page lists every account's entries, newest first, with search and filters by account, category and date.
From your profile, download everything you have put into Gentry as JSON, or a single table as a CSV that opens in any spreadsheet.
When a bank or brokerage stops letting Gentry in, the dashboard and sidebar say so, and Gentry emails you, so a stale balance never looks current.
Each year of the projection now says which savings its spending comes from, gives cash its own colour, and taxes brokerage withdrawals as long-term gains.
The tax projection now shows all your savings as one bar per year, split into tax deferred, HSA, Roth and taxable. Tap a colour to see how much sits in it, and watch money move as you convert or spend.
If you retire early, the projection now spends taxable and Roth money first, shows any 10% penalty, and flags each year that runs short with the latest year a conversion would clear in time.
Log a past Roth contribution with "Log past money in", or by marking a transaction as a contribution. It counts toward what you can take out, and you can remove it from the same card if you got it wrong.
When you log a Roth conversion you can now say how much of it was already taxed, so only the rest waits out the five year clock.
Each Roth IRA now shows how much you could withdraw right now without tax or penalty, and when each conversion that is still waiting will clear. Conversions from before you joined can be logged by hand.
When Gentry asks about money arriving in a Roth IRA, you can now say it was a conversion from a traditional account, so it starts its own five year clock instead of counting as a new contribution.
The sentence explaining an account's change now names the holding that moved it most, so you can see what drove a good or bad day.
Select several transactions in an account to recategorize or delete them together, instead of one row at a time.
An account you have closed can be archived rather than deleted. It leaves your totals but keeps its history, and you can bring it back from Archived accounts.
Dividends now land on the date your broker actually pays them, not the earlier ex-dividend date, so they match your statement.
The taxes page now shows an estimated tax bill for every taxable account if you sold it today, plus a total across all of them, so you can see the cost before you decide.
Any year in your tax projection now has a Convert to Roth field. Type an amount and see the bracket and balance consequence immediately, capped at what that year has left after its required withdrawal.
The inflation and side income you set in the planning simulator are saved to your account now, so the figures you choose are still there the next time you open it.
The taxes page now projects your taxable income to retirement, split into working, gap and retired years, each showing what sits in every account type, so you can see where a Roth conversion has room.
The contribution room card now orders your accounts by which to fill next, so you can see where the next dollar should go, not only how much room each one has left.
Each allowance on your portfolio page is now a bar rather than a sentence, so you can see how full a 401k, IRA or HSA is without reading. Allowances you have finished sink below the ones still worth a look.
The tax page now shows your federal marginal rate and works out whether Traditional or Roth wins for your next contribution, based on the retirement rate you set.
The planning page now asks for your filing status and confirms what your income figure means, which is what lets Gentry work out your tax position.
Turn on a code from your authenticator app and a stolen password is no longer enough to open your portfolio. Ten backup codes get you back in if you lose your phone.
Linking a brokerage is now open to every account. Connect one and Gentry reads your balances and holdings, so you stop typing them in.
New accounts get a message to confirm their address, and you can send it again if it does not arrive. Confirming is also what lets you turn on two factor authentication.
Your projection no longer assumes a flat market average. It reads the mix of what you hold and uses a rate that matches it.
Opening a 401k, IRA or HSA now shows what you are still allowed to put in this year, and says so on both pages when the allowance is shared across more than one account.
A holding's dividend rate now comes from what it actually paid over the last twelve months, rather than from a single recent payment.
Your dashboard and each account now separate the money you added from what the market did, and name the account that carried the month.
Tell Gentry how your employer matches and it works out what you are leaving on the table this year.
The number your freedom date turns on is now on the screen you actually check.
See what is left in your 401k, IRA and HSA for the year, and how long you have to use it.
When a lot of money arrives or leaves, Gentry asks what it was instead of guessing, so your cost basis stays right.
Every holding says when its price was last refreshed, so you know how fresh the number you are reading is.
