Privacy notice Terms of service Security

This Privacy Notice explains how Gentry ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Gentry website, applications, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

When you create an account or use the Service, we may collect:

  • Account information such as your name, email address, and password (or, when you sign in with a third-party provider, the identifier they return to us).
  • Financial data you enter such as account labels, balances, holdings, transactions, contributions, and goals.
  • Profile and preferences such as your retirement target, currency, and display settings.
  • Communications such as support requests, feedback, and survey responses.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data such as pages viewed, features used, click events, error logs, device type, browser type, IP address, and approximate location derived from IP.
  • Cookies and similar technologies used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used.

Information from third parties

If you sign in with a third-party identity provider (for example Google), we receive the basic profile information that provider shares with us pursuant to your authorization. We may also receive market data, security pricing, and reference data from third-party data providers.

If you choose to connect a financial account, we receive information about that account from a financial data provider acting on your authorization. That information includes account names, types, and balances, and the securities held in the account with their quantities, prices, and cost basis. We do not receive, and never store, the username, password, or other credentials for your financial institution. Connecting an account is optional and is never required to use Gentry.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service.
  • Calculate your portfolio value, projections, milestones, and other metrics shown in the product.
  • Retrieve and keep current the balances and holdings of any accounts you have chosen to connect.
  • Authenticate you and protect your account.
  • Communicate with you about your account and the Service.
  • Diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and ensure security.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

  • Service providers who host our infrastructure, process authentication, send email, monitor errors, or otherwise help us operate the Service, under contracts that limit their use of your information.
  • A financial data provider, if you choose to connect an account. You authorize that provider directly and they hold the relationship with your institution. Their own privacy policy governs how they handle your information, and we encourage you to read it before connecting.
  • Legal and safety when required by law, subpoena, or similar process, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
  • Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will continue to protect your information as described here.
  • With your consent for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time we collect the information.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account at any time from your profile page.

When you request deletion we record the request and schedule your data for permanent removal 30 days later. You can cancel the request at any point during those 30 days, which restores your account as it was. After the 30 days elapse, your account and the financial data you entered are deleted. Backups are retained on their own schedule and are overwritten in the ordinary course. We may retain a limited record of the deletion itself, and anything we are required to keep to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

If you have connected any financial accounts, deleting your Gentry account also instructs the data provider to end those connections.

5. Connected Accounts

Connecting a financial account is optional. Gentry is designed to work entirely on figures you enter yourself, and it will continue to.

If you do connect an account, you authenticate with your institution through a financial data provider, entering your details into that provider's interface or your institution's own login screen, never into Gentry. Our access is read only. We can see balances and holdings. We cannot move money, place trades, or change anything at your institution.

You can disconnect an account at any time from within Gentry. Disconnecting revokes our access, ends the connection at the data provider, and stops any further information being received. Data already saved to your Gentry account remains until you delete it or delete your account.

6. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict our use of the personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. See our Security page for more detail. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International Data Transfers

The Service is hosted in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We may also use analytics cookies to understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect the way the Service works.

11. Changes to This Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. If we make material changes, we will give you reasonable notice, for example by posting a notice in the Service or sending you an email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when the notice was last revised.
